Changes to be made:

CWH has been providing support to its children for many years and is always looking for ways in which the service can be improved. In the coming months two specific changes will be made:

1. Children’s Club:

The children play their role in the smooth running of the home but have not, to date, had any formal representation within it. In April 2010 the children will be invited to form a ‘Children’s Club’ that will run as they wish it to and will provide them with representation. Nepali culture places a great deal of emphasis on age and respect so rather than a system of votes, which will only place the oldest children in charge, a rotation system will be implemented. Each six months two new representatives will be called: one older, one younger, one male, one female. It will be ensured that each pair will be made up of one child who is interested in representation and one who it is hoped will rise to the occasion and the responsibility.

2. Formalisation of documentation on all children

Two comprehensive forms have been created and disseminated to the relevant staff. Every child will now have a file on him/her in order to chart progress (health, education, behavioural) and to help the centre have a fuller understanding of the child, background and future.

The same process will also be applied to all children living outside but receiving sponsorship. They will be monitored through quarterly visits to them at school and at home ensuring that the sponsors’ funds are being used properly and that children are benefitting from the intervention.
