For Child adoption

The adoption process in Nepal

After you submit your application and upon payment of the application and medical fee to the CWH, the file shall be sent to and checked by the Children Welfare Home. If the file satisfies the requirements, the CWH invites the prospective parents to Nepal. When the family arrives in Nepal they can visit the child, and they have to take an official visit to the CDO(District Administration Office of Lalitpur). Upon signature of the official approval on behalf of the CDO, the family is requested to pay the CWH the costs incurred in the process up to that stage. The CDO approval represents an official consent to the adoption in principle. In the next stage the CDO reexamines the documents in the file, before finalising it and submitting to various other government offices for revision and approval. After the file is submitted to the Ministry, it takes usually 3-6 months before it is examined, as the Ministry handles the files on a first come-first served basis. The Ministry Executive Board checks the file and upon its approval an official notice is sent to the Children Welfare Home. This is when the family is requested to pay the remaining costs of the adoption process. After the Ministry approval, the CWH invites the family to Nepal for payment of the Bal Mandir fee (direct to the Ministry), and to make the necessary arrangements for the baby's passport to be issued. Finally, the baby is released from the country with the adopting parents.

Costs

In terms of the adoption process the following costs and fees are payable to CWH: application, administration and publication costs (certificates, official documents, photographs, postage, files, stamps, office overhead costs, newspaper publications of no-claims declaration), monitoring, contribution to baby-care until the completion of the adoption process, translation, legal fees. In Nepal the government regulates only the process of adoption. The Bal Mandir and NGO Federation fees are payable directly to these organizations.
